歯科矯正をしたい！と思ったのは、小学生高学年のころ。
すでに前歯が出ていた。
母が「私にそっくり」と気にしており、暇さえあれば母が前歯を押さえつけてきた。
※そんなことで、前歯がひっこむはずないのに。
母の謝罪と説得があり、近所の矯正もやっていると聞きつけた歯科医へ。
前歯がひっこむんだ！
そうなれば、自虐ネタにしなくていいんだ！と明るい気持ちで待合室で過ごした。
ようやく診察室へ。一通り、歯科医はわたしの歯を目視した。
すると、歯科医より衝撃的な一言をもらった。
「あなたの歯（をここで矯正すること）はできません。」
そんなにか！！そのあとの言葉も。
「ここから１時間かかりますが、矯正できそうな病院を紹介しますね。」
小学生の私にとって、通院のたびの１時間は貴重すぎた。
もったいなくて仕方がなかった。
母はそれ以降、何度か説得してきたが、頑なに同意しなかった。
何より、歯科医に拒否されたことが、悔しく、むなしく、寂しかった。
いつの間にか、歯科矯正する決意が薄らいでいったのだった。
